THE REAL PATH TO SUCCESS

Success – it’s something we all strive for in one way or another, but what does success mean? Is it the corner office with the view of downtown? The six-figure salary? Having a perfect body? The ability to buy whatever you want whenever you want? Wanting success and being willing to do what it takes for that success are two very different things.

So, in terms of fitness success, what does that mean, and how do we get there? Is it luck, hard work, or a combination of the two (ps. We know you know that it sure as heck isn’t luck)?

So, here is how it goes. It’s not a straight line with constant progress moving forward; it is like a zigzag pattern or a roller-coaster ride where you make progress, then backtrack to zero again, getting ahead and back to zero again (well, maybe not quite zero every time). There will also be times when it feels like you’re stuck and aren’t making any headway. If you keep going, if you don’t give up. So don’t be discouraged by the setbacks and failures on this journey. They are inevitable, but they are also what make that much sweeter in the end.

Being resilient and having the right mindset and different perspectives are vital factors. Resilience is the ability to bounce back after a challenging situation and keep going no matter what life throws your way. To dust yourself off after a fall and get back up stronger than before.

Many people are forever stuck in that first fitness loop: try something, make progress, fall off. Your programs, diets, and tricks are not always sustainable. They are occasionally tedious, and sometimes they simply do not work. However, you will be a little further along after six weeks. Even if you fall, it will not be back. You’ll notice that you’re not backtracking as much as you used to. Someday, you’ll think, “Wow, I’ve gone a whole year without gaining any significant weight.” And when you hit a snag, thinking in this manner will help you maintain your perspective on your progress. When things start to slow down, you’ll always be able to look back at point zero and see that you’re not even close (Yay YOU!).

Perspective and mindset are essential to success because they dictate how we see the world. If we can change our attitude or adopt a growth mindset, we allow ourselves to learn and grow. And that… is awesome!
