Hopefully, the title got your attention. What intrigued you about it? Was it that you were curious about how you could maybe lose 30 lbs in 30 days? Have you ever stopped to think about why there are so many different diets out there? How can there still be new methods of diet and weight loss still coming out? Let me tell you why. We, as humans, are impatient. What if I told you that the best way to lose weight was this. Do one small thing today and let it gain momentum over time, and you will have lost 30 lbs in a year. Not very sexy right?
So what is the “best” diet?
Being patient and utilizing time to your advantage is called delayed gratification. Those that have lost weight and keep it off are the ones that know those small things in addition to time, equate to unbelievable results. They delay the instant moments of happiness in pursuit of the bigger purpose of fulfillment. Being patient isn’t easy. Remember using dial-up internet? I can guarantee that if we needed to go back to that, many of us would throw our computers out the window.
Also, remember those extreme diet/exercise game shows? I want you to open another tab on your phone or computer right now and search “where are the winners of ______ show now?” You don’t need to go very far to see that a significant amount of them have gained their weight back and maybe even more. “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in 10 years.” -Bill Gates.
Start Small, Be Patient
We are habitual creatures. Studies show that it takes on average of 66 days to form a habit. How can we then expect to overhaul multiple bad habits in a short period of time? Sure, you might see a byproduct of significant weight loss in a very short period, but how do you expect to keep it off? Read the last blog post on doing the small things if you want to know more about the idea of momentum.
Learn to do the things that no one else will, so that you later will do what no one else can. Instead of buying that 12 pack of cola, buy the 12 pack of Bubly. It may seem insignificant, but this will gain momentum if you let it, you only need to be patient with it. This could add up to you losing a significant amount of weight by next year. Instead of investing your time in the upcoming “best” diet, you should start small today.
Our Mission
At Greater Purpose Health and Nutrition, our Mission is “Committed to making people well through fitness, a positive atmosphere, and meaningful relationships.” We want to make you well. Not just fit but holistically well. A byproduct of you being well and in this environment is that you will also find Joy, Hope, and Purpose. There is nothing mentioned in there about how many lbs you will lose. When you are in an environment like this, you become less fixated on getting quick results. You then look in the mirror one year later and notice some amazing changes! Physically, mentally, and spiritually. The great thing about that is that it doesn’t just stop at a year, it just keeps rolling forward.
Play the long game and find a community that prioritizes the holistic you. By next year, you will be glad you did. You will be unrecognizable in more ways than one. If you want to learn more about our community, click the link below to book your free meeting to see if we can help you take the small steps to the new you.
