Episode 38 – The Benefits of a Powerful Morning Routine

While some people wake up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to take on the day, they make breakfast and start their day with a smile on their faces (does anyone actually do that? Probably not), many people find waking up early and being productive before noon as challenging (same!). Most of us would much rather stay in bed for hours on end than be forced to wake up early and get movin’. However, the way you start your day can set the tone for the rest of it, and what you do with those first 30 minutes can make-it-or-break-it for the rest of your awake

So… here are the facts. 

If you don’t have a morning routine, it’s time to start one. 

When you hear the word morning routine, most of you might think of a systemized set-up for the day. Wake up at 4 am, go for a 20-mile run, have a perfectly balanced, organic, grain fed, beautifully curated breakfast (mmm that does sound good), and then meditate for two hours. Although these are ideal, it doesn’t have to be that excessive to be successful. A successful morning routine is just an accumulation of small habits that prepare you for the day. Consistency is the key aspect. Start with a simple habit, like drinking water, avoiding your phone, making your bed, and having a few quiet moments before you tackle the tasks ahead. 

Having a morning routine has tons of benefits.

Avoiding a rush of cortisol and stress first thing in the morning helps your body ease into the day.

You are less likely to dread getting out of bed when you know you can take some time before getting to tasks. 

Having a healthy morning routine will also lead you to being more productive throughout the day, as your mind will be fresher, and more prepared to take on challenges. Studies have shown that those who have routines are more effective and efficient in their work. 

You just might (maybe, hopefully) notice yourself feeling a tad bit happier, too!

The discipline and the practice of having a morning routine can be life-changing and transferable to other aspects of your life. Since really, you can only control the first 30 minutes of your day and the last 30 minutes of your day, you might as well focus a little energy on crushing those minutes!
