A New Approach To Nutrition and Dieting

I have wanted to start writing a few small blog posts to share some of the things I am learning with you guys, starting with nutrition. Yahoooooo! I believe there are a lot of misconceptions on nutrition and “dieting”, that really hold us back from reaching our goals and I want to try and clear some things up.

At the risk of sounding a bit sappy, one of the biggest things to be successful in your nutrition is self-love. If you are always comparing yourself to someone else, or you have this idea that looking a certain way will make you happier, chances are your diet or nutrition plan will not always fall short, or simply fail. There are just some people who will be super lean and jacked without even trying, it’s okay to kick those people… Really hard. Just kidding, they probably want to look different too, because we are never satisfied, am I right?

Another huge, gigantic, very important, vital, essential (am I clear?) part is sustainability. What is realistic for you? Even more important, what is realistic for you to maintain for longer than a 30-day challenge? The challenges are not put in place for you to lose X amount of pounds or have a 6 pack by the end of it. It is utilized to get you on the right path, and starting habits for a lifetime of health. Not just 30 days of exceptionally well-balanced meals. And on that notes, caloric restriction is the last thing you want to do, you may lose weight off the bat, but if it is not sustainable you will end up gaining that weight back, and probably more! The key ingredient to this whole wonderfully confusing and challenging thing is to find something that fits in with your lifestyle and that you will continue with for more than 30 days.

Figure out why you want to lose weight or have a different body composition. Whether it be performance, aesthetics, health. In my opinion, eating for health is always the most successful… that way you are successful on how you feel, not how you look or how much you weigh. And realistically, we know that looking a certain way does not always mean you’re going to feel your best.

There are many different “diets”. Paleo, the Zone, IIFYM (if it fits your macros), flexible dieting… The list goes on. If you have never done any of these, start with Paleo, which essentially involves eating meats vegetables, nuts seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar. But start small and make sure it is SUSTAINABLE. Don’t go cold turkey. Next, try the zone. This is a little more advanced and you need to weigh and measure/track your macro %. If you are looking for more performance, then you have to play with these numbers or try IIFYM.

There is so much more to talk about but I will leave it here for now.

Remember to do it for you. Remember being a certain weight does not make you a better person, nor will it solve all of life’s problems. We want to help make you healthy and everyone’s healthy looks different.

We are always here to help you figure that out!
